Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius, who was on an official visit in Latvia, held a meeting with Latvian colleague Ivars Godmanis, the main topics were economic, financial and tax policies in both countries and energy, LETA reports.

Kubilius expressed his pleasure at the opportunity to visit Latvia, pointing out that both countries have similar problems caused by the global recession. "Both nations are in a stressful situation - expenditures are being cut in order to reduce the budget deficit, stabilize finances and boost the economy," said Kubilius.

Energy issues were also on the table today, particularly the forming of an energy bridge between the Baltic States and Sweden, and between Poland and Lithuania. Godmanis informed that Lithuania plans to request the European Commission give the energy connection with Sweden priority project status. The Lithuanian premier called the economic downswing a good time to carry out postponed reforms.
