While only open for several months, Mama has already been awarded second prize in Jurmala Council's Best Hotel Restaurant competition.

A light and airy atmosphere is decorated in white and cool tones. Cute dog portraits of Chicco, pet of the family who owns the restaurant, adds personality. Choose a seat in the inviting modern baroque interior or on the terrace out front that's only a little disturbed by the busy street.

Chef Francesko bubbled with characteristic Italian enthusiasm as he explained his love of combining unusual ingredients and ideas to produce truly creative dishes. This was evident in the menu, complete with considerate wine pairings, where you'll find Italian classics and reinventions, and original Latvian/Mediterranean combinations.

We tried a fresh and zesty starter, outstandingly combining lemon-soaked tuna, red onions, cherry-tomatoes and peppery rocket salad with a sweet onion jam (€13). The fact that everything is home made was really proved by our main pasta dish, where the frothy bitterness of the goat's cheese sauce teamed well with powerful tomato confit (€9). A lighter destructed tiramisu (€6.50) has you experience real flavor in a version of the classic dessert not as likely to destroy a fine waistline.

The menu is quite varied from grilled meats, snacks and pizzas. Attractive presentation and little touches like mid-course sorbet give this restaurant a noticeable edge.
