The British company Whitbread, which runs Costa Coffee, the biggest café chain in the United Kingdom, could soon enter Latvia.
It has announced plans to acquire the floundering Coffee Nation café chain in Latvia in a deal estimated at GBP 32 million, according to the website Nozare.lv. The takeover would allow further business expansion for Whitbread as the company aims to increase the number of outlets to 2,000 in 2010-2011. Whitbread was founded back in 1742. Besides the popular Costa Coffee brand, it owns Premier Travel Inn hotels, the Brewers Fayre and Beefeater chains of pubs and restaurants, and David Lloyd Leisure sports clubs.
