Political alliance Unity officially founded

A new political alliance titled Unity was officially founded; the new alliance is made up of the political parties New Era, Civic Union and Society for Different Politics.
646 delegates participating in the congress voted for the establishment of the new political union; none voted against, three delegates abstained, informs Leta.
The leaders of all three parties that make up the Unity have been in politics for a long time. Civic Union leader Girts Valdis Kristovskis has worked as the interior minister and the defense minister, New Era leader Solvita Aboltina has held the post of the justice minister, whereas Society for Different Politics leader Aigars Stokenbergs has been the economy minister and the minister of regional development and local governments.
The speakers at the congress emphasized that the new political union needs to gain a lot of support among voters to be successful, and that politicians must improve their cooperation with non-governmental organizations.
According to the Unity charter approved at the congress, the new political organization will be headed by three co-chairpersons, whereas the organization's board will consist of up to 15 members, with equal number of members delegated by each of the three parties.
The Unity's board will have extensive powers, for instance, it will approve the Unity's tickets for the Saeima and European Parliament elections.
The Union's declaration, that was also presented to the delegates at the congress today, says that the goal of the new union is flourishing Latvia in the 21st century, with the priorities being education, entrepreneurship, sustainable development, fast exit from the crisis, responsible and honest politics.
