Latvia's foreign trade deficit in January at LVL 76.8 million
In January 2010, Latvia's foreign trade deficit reached LVL 76.8 million, according to the Central Statistical Bureau's provisional data, informs Leta.
Latvia's exports reached LVL 269.4 million in January, whereas the volume of imports was LVL 346.3 million. Compared to January 2009, Latvia's exports increased 4.7 percent in January this year, whereas the value of imports decreased 13.1 percent.
The total foreign trade turnover at current prices in January comprised LVL 615.7 million - 12.2 percent or LVL 85.6 million less than a month before and 6.1 percent or LVL 40.1 million less compared to January 2009.
In January 2010, the most significant share in Latvia's export was to the countries of the European Union (72.6 percent), followed by exports to CIS countries - 10 percent. Main export partners were Lithuania (15.1 percent of total export volume), Estonia (14.1 percent), Germany (9 percent), Sweden (8.3 percent) and Russia (6.6 percent).
In January 2010 the most significant share in Latvia's import was from the countries of the European Union (67.1 percent), followed by imports from CIS countries - 24.4 percent. Main import partners were Russia (17.3 percent of total import), Lithuania (16.7 percent), Germany (9.2 percent), Poland (7.2 percent) and Estonia (6.7 percent).
