Latvia's top tennis player Ernests Gulbis suffered defeat on Friday in his second round match at the BNP Paribas Open tournament in Indian Wells.

The Latvian player lost out 4-6, 4-6 to Russian player Nikolay Davydenko, who is the fifth seed in the tournament, and the sixth-placed player in the ATP world rankings, informs Leta.

This was the third game between the two players, with the Russian also winning the previous two encounters.

Gulbis, currently placed 45th in the ATP world rankings, had won his first round match against Switzerland's Marco Chiudinelli, earning 25 ATP rankings points for reaching the second round.

Davydenko will play Serb Viktor Troicki in the third round.

Sfx: I wouldn't read too much into it - could be there were poeblrms (or even just a cordial agreement to split) before
Federer's recent losses. Besides, when Federer won three Grand Slams in 2004 he didn't have a coach at all! Maybe he figures
he should try that tactic once more just before Roland Garros!JAP: you're way past your Seles-by date.
