The fortunes of airBaltic continue to rise following the ash-cloud crisis, much of it on the back of substantial route expansion from its main hub in Riga.

For the first time in the Latvian airline’s history, the overall monthly passenger number exceeded 300,000 in June 2010.
The airline carried 340,586 passengers in June 2010 from Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn, representing a 32 percent increase compared to the same month in 2009. Reflecting the impressive traffic flow in Riga, the number of passengers there increased by 31 percent compared to the same month last year.
In the first half of the 2010, airBaltic transported a total of 1,472,089 passengers, or 22 percent more than during the same period in 2009.
However, it operated an even greater number of flights in June than last year – 5,592 of them, or 41 percent more than in June 2009, and 26,748 flights between January and the end of June, or 27 percent more than during the first half of 2009.
Nevertheless, the airline’s load factor, which represents the number of passengers as a proportion of the number of available seats, remained at the same level as in June 2009, at 72 percent. During the first six months of 2010, airline’s load factor was at a level of 65 percent, the same level as in the same period of 2009.
The 15-minute flight punctuality indicator for airBaltic was at a level of 79.9 percent in June 2010, meaning that almost 80 of every 100 flights in June departed at the planned time or with a delay of no more than 15 minutes.
airBaltic is operating 27 more routes this summer than it did in 2009. The airline serves 80 destinations from its home base in Riga. Its most recent route announcement was that it would start flights between Riga and Kittila in Finland, a popular winter holiday destination close to the winter resort of Levi, from November 8. Flights will also be available between Kittila and Tampere.
