In I half of 2008 Latvia granted 1857 permits for the construction of one-dwelling buildings

  In the 1st half of 2008 construction management authorities granted 1857 permits for the construction of one-dwelling buildings with a total area of 399.7 thsd m², according to the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia. But in the 1st half of 2007 2818 such permits with total area of 618.3 thsd m2 were granted. Building permits are granted for the new construction, as well as, for the capital repairs, reconstruction and restoration of the buildings.

 

Of the total number of building permits granted for the construction of single dwelling houses 1341 building permits or 72% were granted for new construction. In the first half of 2007 the number of building permits granted for such type of buildings comprised 78% of the total number of building permits granted.

 

In the 1st half of 2008 the majority of building permits granted for the construction of single dwelling buildings were issued in the district of Riga – in total 396 building permits making up 30% of the total number of such permits in the country. 165 building permits (12%) were granted in the district of Ogre, 83 (6%) in the city of Riga, 60 (4%) in the district of Tukums, 58 (4%) in Jelgava, 54 (4%) in the district of Bauska, 44 (3%) in the district of Cēsis, 44 (3%) in the district of Talsi and 41 (3%) in the city of Jūrmala.

 

The number of building permits granted for the construction of summerhouses and weekend houses has decreased. In the first half of 2008 only 483 building permits were granted, 11% less if compared to first half of 2007.

 

Of the total number of building permits issued for the construction of summerhouses and weekend houses 256 permits or 53% were granted for the construction of new summerhouses and weekend houses with a total area of 30.4 thsd m2. The majority of this type houses is intended to be built in the district of Riga – 137 houses or 54% of the total number of summerhouses and weekend houses, followed by the district of Liepāja with 23 houses (9%), district of Valmiera – 18 (7%), Jūrmala – 15 (6%) and the district of Ogre –14 houses (7%).

 

In the 1st half of 2008 92 building permits were granted for the construction of two or more dwelling buildings with total area of 140.7 thsd m2, of which 51 building permit was issued for new construction of two or more dwelling buildings with total area of 107.6 thsd m2. These permits were issued in the district of Riga – 24, in Riga city – 12, in Jūrmala – 6, in Jelgava – 4, in the district of Ogre – 3, in Ventspils – 1 and in the district of Tukums – 1 building permit.

 

In the first half of 2008 building permits were granted for the construction of 22 new hotels and other similar short-term accommodation buildings with a total area of 8.6 thsd m2, 35permits were issued for the construction of new office buildings, 35 permits for new wholesale and retail trade buildings and 11 for new traffic and communications buildings. Building permits were also granted for new industrial production buildings and warehouses (90 building permits) and new mass-entertainment, educational or healthcare buildings (34 permits).


Building permits were granted also for the civil engineering constructions. 110 building permits were granted for the construction of new highways, streets and roads, 2 building permits – for the construction of railway tracks, as well as, 41 permit for the construction of new main pipelines, communications and power transmission lines with a total length of 78.1 km. In the first half of 2008 348 building permits were granted for the construction of new local pipelines and cables with a total length of 168.8 km.
