Mood among German companies in Baltics is optimistic

The mood among German companies active in the Baltic region at the start of 2014 is optimistic, continuing the trend of the past three years, a new survey says.

The continuing good economic situation and positive outlook suggest a successful year for 2014, the German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce maintains.

The confident assessment is carried over to the employment and investment intentions of entrepreneurs for the current year. Location factors are convincing from the perspective of German companies to be active in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania again, even compared to other countries in the region, the survey says. A total of 119 companies participated in the survey.

Some economic policy action is still needed, German entrepreneurs say, for example in relation to the system for vocational education and training, but overall the report is extremely favorable.

The economic situation in the Baltic states is assessed by German companies active here as good or satisfactory. The economic development of all three countries in 2013 was significantly higher than the EU average. A third of the surveyed companies doing business in Estonia and a quarter in Latvia are satisfied with the current situation of the local economy in 2014 – and almost 60% of those active in Lithuania.
