SPI Distribution becomes official distributor for KWV wines in Latvia

More bottles hailing from one of South Africa’s biggest wineries will find their way into restaurants and onto local shelves now that KWV has signed a deal with the biggest distributor of alcoholic drinks in Latvia, SPI Distribution.

The roots of the KWV winery go back almost a century to 1918. Today it is a globally recognized winemaker and exporter, with more than 100 different wines in its portfolio which are distributed in more than 100 markets around the world.

The winery unites 69 wine growers from 13 regions in South Africa and 420 vineyards. It produces 12,000 tons of wines each year.

SPI Distribution, which also distributes Latvijas balzams products, says it will represent six KWV wine categories on the local market for restaurants, bars and specialized wine stores. Categories include what SPI calls “so-called everyday wines”, such as Pearly Bay and classics like KWV Classic, as well as more select collections including KWV Cathedral Cellar, Roodeberg and Laborie.

SPI Distribution is part of the newly created pan-Baltic Amber Beverage Group, and besides SPI Distribution (Latvia), KWV will be represented in the region also by SPI Distribution (Estonia) and, in Lithuania, Bennet Distributors.
