An Art Nouveau souvenir shop at 9 Strelnieku, just off the famed Albert iela, is more of an homage to that period than a tourist Mecca, where the Nouveau enthusiast can enjoy artisan artifacts that can be transported home. The period interior of “Art Nouveau Riga” makes for elegant shopping; you don’t feel as if you are in a tacky tourist shop, but rather in a gallery that celebrates the magnificence of this prominent period in Latvia’s artistry and craftsmanship.
The brilliant examples of Riga’s Art Nouveau (Jugenstil) architecture are a treasure that never ceases to inspire Riga’s visitors as well as those who live here. These building of course are a national treasure for all to view and enjoy on Riga’s city streets, but we all known that taking them home is impossible. What is possible, however, is to take home a keepsake that will trigger your memories of the wonder of it all.
On offer are handmade façade replicas that would spruce up any interior or wall, and can only be found here. For those interested in the style of the time as far as fashion is concerned, they have handmade 100 percent silk scarves with period floral designs that would make any granny, mom or girlfriend thankful that you went on that business trip.
Other highlights of the shop are the pillowcases that will add a little Nouveau to any couch, or try the poster and print replicas that make for a great memento of your journey to Riga. The coffee table books are also a nice way to remember your time in Riga’s Art Nouveau district.
