“M” is for Mystery.
When asking proprietor Inga Čīma, why this reincarnation of the long-standing favorite “Ai Karumba” was named K.I.D., she replied, “these are the three magical letters”. The marketing twist is the asterisk explaining that “* it is not related to children”, although we did spy a large TV screening funky 70’s episodes of Sesame Street.
So with no help from her, we think the “K” stands for “Kool”, describing the open and clean design, white-washed walls and wooden floors. “I” is for “Individual”, because the interior design has been created by artists. You can appreciate artwork on display, or a library lounge area upstairs that feels like a comfortable part of some bohemian’s house, leading out to a large leafy terrace.
That leaves “D” for “Delicious”, especially if you are a salad fan. The main feature downstairs off the Lobby Bar area is the open salad bar, where you can construct your own vegetarian fantasy for €5. Then there’s a selection of grilled fish or meat to add if you wish, average price of €4. Yet the menu offers a much wider choice, starting with a hotel-style breakfast buffet in the mornings, through to an interesting choice from appetizers to desserts. What particularly impressed was professional service, making a visit to K.I.D. feel very welcoming.
