Domini Canes restaurant has opened in place of the funky 60’s style Citas Debesis restaurant that used to occupy the same place at Skārņu 20 in Old Town.
After the renovation the restaurant has been completely revamped, now offering a much more sophisticated setting for an unhurried breakfast, business lunch, or a relaxed candlelit atmosphere for dinner. The international menu isn’t wide or adventurous, but what they do have is prepared perfectly, combining contrasting ingredients and ideas to produce creative dishes. I tried the broth soup with home-made herbed goat-cheese ravioli and tiger prawns (3.00 €). But the poached pikeperch was nicely teamed with crispy asparagus and roasted vegetables inside a puff pastry, gently complemented by a sweet coconut sauce (6.90 €). It was surprising to see how the owners of the restaurant managed to transform this tiny space, with just nine tables, from a dining room into a club with DJs on Friday and Saturday nights. After all, Domini Canes breathes fresh breath into Riga’s dining scene, creating a nice alternative to the rather expensive Old Riga dining venues.
