For those keen on changing the decoration of their home according the season or their mood, here’s a new place in central Riga where you can buy good-looking and practical items for the home.
Tellingly, gaumes lieta means “a matter of taste”.Having fun trying to combine items is like playing with lego – the candlesticks, vases, muffin makers, etc., are designed to this purpose, coming in the same shapes in different sizes. Right now, virtually everything in the shop seems to be in black, white and red. But there are lots of additional extras to choose from to spice up your home if you don’t like plain simplicity.
One of the owners of the shop, Ieva, revealed some examples for such a transformation. A fairly run-of-the-mill white angular vase can easily be transformed for Valentine’s Day by attaching a heart-shape magnet. A white plain candlestick can become a romantic one by adding a special ring on the top of it, and once the madness of love is gone add another decorated magnet. Transform another vase into a practical container for beads or buttons by buying a lid. And so forth. Gaumes Lieta is absolutely a handy spot for those who like practical and easy designs made by Scandinavian designers, but with an intriguing sense of the quirky.
