A number of high-altitude terraces with unique views of the spires of Riga have been appearing of late. Hotels such as the Avalon and the Albert, among others, have panoramic skylines from different angles that are special spots for a sunset-soaked evening drink.
No expense was spared at the summer terrace of the Dome Hotel & Spa, a one-year-old luxury hotel so named for its close-range views of the city’s hulking cathedral. Decked out in African teak panels and floorboards, this is a sheltered multi-level terrace of seven or eight two-person tables balancing romantically on the rooftops. There are three ways up. Use the hotel’s 150-year-old staircase, take the lift or, if you’re feeling adventurous, climb the steep spiral stairs clinging to the outside of the building. Once at the top, indulge in masterfully created dishes such as duck terrine with port wine and cedar nuts, care of Restaurant Le Dome Executive Chef Alexander Ziluk, who has cooked for personages such as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Or take a selection of the delicious two-lat tapas, four-lat desserts and five-lat salads.
