The Benetton Group has united the colors of the USA with the fashion of Europe in their Playlife brand. Describing themselves as “chic at a distance, super-sophisticated up close,” and briefly as “American college style,” their summer collection certainly harks back to those preppy days gone by, so popular in the States in the 1980s. Horizontal-striped rugbies, searsucker blazers, golf tees and khaki pants have all made a comeback.
The color scheme is classic Americana. Bold reds, whites and blues in solids or stripes – a clean look for an evening out or casual enough to get you to the beach and back. Their summer collection is even being marketed as being perfect for a “long summer weekend in The Hamptons” – the Long Island beaches that are to Manhattan what Jurmala is to Riga.
