Gutenbergs Terrace

An elegant Old Riga hotel named after the man responsible for inventing the printing press has reopened its summer-season Roof Terrace.
One of the city’s most memorable dining and drinking spots, the Hotel Gutenbergs terrace boasts some of the best evening views of central Riga, including an up-close portrait of the magnificent Dome Cathedral. The hotel is located just behind the main entrance to the cathedral, and the viewpoint’s broad arc takes in 13 church spires to the east and a stretch of the River Daugava between two bridges to the west. Visit regularly enough and you’ll be able to watch the erection of the National Library across the river. All dishes are made on the roof BBQ-style by two or three chefs. Tables cozily seat two to four people, and there are infrared heaters for chilly nights and a roof for shelter if it rains. Live piano music gently tinkles on most evenings, especially in good weather. It’s an unbeatable location for a corporate or private function, seating up to 70 people or 150 standing. You can never guarantee fine weather, of course, so the conference room below is also reserved on such occasions just in case.
