“Best milkshakes ever!” says the glossy menu. We tried one, and we believe it. the enterpris- ing young businesspeople behind riga’s first genuine american diner confided that the shakes were made from a secret recipe, and we didn’t press them to reveal it. We just enjoyed slurping it down. Flavors range from blackberry to tiramisu. the waiter, dressed right out of the 1950s, brought over a refill in a metal beaker with a long spoon. It’s just like the classic diners everyone’s seen in the movies but few have actually experienced.
Citydiner is fun for all occasions – breakfast, business lunch, dinner with friends, great for kids. an entertainer entertains the little ones at weekends. all of the décor has come from the usa – the red-and-white uniforms and seating, the barstools, pictures on the wall. Get a nickel for free at the bar and use the old-fashioned jukebox. Get unlimited refills of addictive filter coffee from the pot for €5. use the free Wi-Fi and stay for hours.
Tapping into the gourmet burger trend, Citydiner goes as far as importing its meat from australia to be absolutely sure of the quality every time. it’s full of flavor. Go for the Caprese Burger with pesto and stacked with mozzarella and tomato slices on one of the buns. or try the “crunchy mexican burger” with jalapeno peppers, nachos and sauce. all burgers come with tons of fries or coleslaw.
Other dishes include an all-day breakfast, salmon tartar, russian pelmeni, cheese nachos, amazing Belgian waffles with berries and ice cream, and more. Happy Hour lasts all day, all week – get two Cuba libre cocktails for the price of one – at any time.
Citydiner is centrally located, close to the old town. if you’re coming by car drive down A.Čaka street, turn into side-street a.Kalniņa, and park there. or beg an attractive passer-by to show you the way and repay the kindness with a milkshake.
