Vīna Studija (The Wine Studio)By Inese Timuka. 27.11.2008The latest venue both for wine aficionado and novice alike is located in one of the city’s more exclusive neighbourhoods. Vīna Studija (The Wine Studio) combines a bar, wine shop, and school for wine lovers all in one.Related places:RESTAURANTS » Prego RESTAURANTS » Black or White EMBASSIES » Embassy of Czech Republic BARS » Vīna StudijaWhenever you pass it, inside there will be plenty of people inspecting wines, and it is no wonder, because they have a lot on offer. The bar area itself is rather compact; most of the tables are placed directly opposite the bar. On the bar menu are around twenty one wine options by the glass, but the wine shop offers a selection of over 500 wines – surprisingly they are all available to sample in the bar as well, you just have to pay an extra €5.7 and your preferred bottle will be served to you. On the menu are some snacks as well – salads, cheese plates – most of which won’t run you more than €7. The staff working here are trained to help you with your order. When I opted for a selection of hard cheeses (€5.50), the waitress recommended an Austrian Rabl Blauer Zweigelt, and I must admit that they went together well. It seems that the bar is carving a niche for itself as a popular after-work stop for the neighbourhood’s professionals. If it is not possible to finish the entire bottle of wine, you can leave it and finish it next day. With any receipt from the bar you receive a ten percent discount on your purchase in the shop where you can find offers starting from €4, with monthly specials as well, proving that good wine is affordable for everyone. Every Monday and Tuesday they organize classes for up to sixteen wine enthusiasts in the private room, headed by Guntis Bērziņš, a board member of the Latvian Sommelier Association. Wine lovers can not only taste a selection of wines from specific regions, but also gather plenty of new information about them. |
