Europa Club Casino: Elegant Gaming

By Anita Kaze. 24.10.2008

If you want to feel more like James Bond, then this is the casino for you. Located in the basement of a magnificent mansion of historic note, the feeling of elegance is augmented by Spanish crystal chandeliers, leather sofas and an elite atmosphere that follows European rather than American style. There’s even local art for sale on display. However the dealers are friendly without a hint of pretentiousness.

American Roulette was our choice for the night, where we tried to will that crazy little ball to bounce favorably in our direction on one of the three roulette tables. There are 13 tables in total, with two others offering Blackjack, and eight with Ultimate Texas Hold’em, classic Texas Hold’em, Russian, Draw, four and five card poker. Betting starts at 2 lats for card games and 0.50 lats for Roulette. All players receive complimentary drinks, as naturally befits such an establishment. For smokers, there’s no smoking at the gaming tables, but they can find a separate room catering for them.

Most evenings the casino offers musical performances by different artists specialising in styles such as classical or jazz. Fridays feature a special guest of the week, either a recognized Latvian musician or an international performer.

The 20 slot machines here are located in a completely separate area, which is a good design choice seeing as they don’t fit in with the classy atmosphere. Players are occasionally given free credit.

We also checked out Post Scriptum, a special room for private events which will please the cigar and cognac connoisseurs. This area has two tables which cater for any of the above mentioned games. For lovers of the finer things in life, Europa Club Casino also has a gourmet chef to treat guests, and within the hotel building you can visit the extremely elegant Benjamins restaurant, open daily 12:00 to 24:00.
