Strolling through the peaceful streets of Old Riga a couple of weeks ago, we accidentally ran into a lovely new giftshop next to the Galerija Centrs shopping mall called Rozes Bode.
We found out that the woman behind the idea for this new souvenir-gift shop, Anita Roze-Traviņa, opened the little salon to offer all sorts of alluring curiosities, made by the owner herself and other talented Latvian artisans.
Every item on sale has its own story behind it and most are definitely one of a kind. There are brightly colored knitted mittens, woven rugs and pillows filled with buckwheat husk (surprisingly comfortable, promising a pleasant sleep at night) among other assorted oddities.
Our favorite items were a range of intriguing candles created in the shape of traditional Latvian symbols, and some delightful felt jewelry in all possible colors and shades.
We noticed that compared to other similar shops around Riga, prices at Anita’s salon are much more down to earth. The prime location makes this a real Old Town gem.
