Founded in 1916, the museum moved to its current location in the historic Powder Tower in 1919. The Powder Tower, bearing the scars of cannonballs, is itself an interesting monument dating from the early 1300's.
The exhibit charts the relatively short, but proud history of Latvian soldiers, starting with the riflemen that helped establish Latvia's independence after the First World War and including the events that led to renewed independence in 1991.
